The Mills #project343 encompasses a pair of rectilinear volumes stacked atop one another, giving the home the identity of contemporary design. Offering naturally illuminated spaces that provide functionality and carefully considered zoning, the Mills project provides an introspective aspect and a welcoming home to a family of four.

.

The distinct architectural layering of concrete, zinc and cedar, add warmth and texture to the project. Internally, an American Oak staircase grounded by an off-form concrete wall is shadowed by double height windows, allowing natural light to flood into the main passageway. Features such as a teal velvet breakfast seat add another dimension to the design of the project and a juxtaposition to the neutral kitchen palette favoured by the clients.

.

With expansive corridors and clever integration between zones, the Mills house establishes a spatial continuity between the main living areas. Clean lines and symmetry were key within the cube-like structure, allowing spaces to be cleverly divided without compromising the flow between living spaces. Upstairs, an additional study, the master ensuite and three additional bedrooms, each containing their own ensuite and walk-in-robe, are anchored to the downstairs living areas by the staircase that connects the two.

.

The rear facade of the Mills house has the top floor shrouded in zinc, offering a textural layer to the external of the build. At the same time, full grass fenestration from both the upstairs and downstairs living areas offer views to the pool and garden areas, while flooding the north facing rear of the home in natural light.

.

The Mills house offers a functionally designed home with a focus on passageways that allow fluidity within the home. Transterior flow through the use of large glass sliding panels are receptive to cool and warm temperatures and create a space that is consistently adaptable to the families needs. Modern design and contemporary styling give character to the home and offer a comfortable living environment for the family to enjoy for years to come.
